Auckland U18 Trials 2026

Eligibility – Players must be born in 2008, 2009, or 2010 to be eligible.

AKH U18 (BLUE) and AKH U18 (WHITE)
Teams will attend National Tournaments in Tauranga (Boys) and Palmerston North (Girls) from 5–11 July 2026.

Trial Dates:

 Boys:  

Monday 23rd March 7pm to 8.30pm – Open Trial
Monday 30th March 7pm to 8.30pm – Open Trial
Monday 20th April – 6pm to 7.30pm –  Invite Trial
Monday 27th April (Anzac Day)  – 6pm to 7.30pm –  Invite Trial

Girls: 

Friday 20th March 7pm to 8.30pm – Open Trial
Friday 27th March 7pm to 8.30pm  – Open Trial
Monday 20th April – 6pm to 7.30pm –  Invite Trial
Monday 27th April (Anzac Day)  – 6pm to 7.30pm –  Invite Trial

Registration closes on Monday 16th March.

All trials to be held at LEP.

Trial Process:
Players who represented Auckland Blue in the 2025 National Tournament are not required to attend the Open Trials but must attend the Invitational and Final trials.

The Open Trials will allow coaches and selectors to assess athletes who have not previously come through the Auckland programmes. Athletes selected from the Open trials will then be invited to attend the Final trials.

The Invitational Trial list will be sent to athletes on Thursday 2nd April. Final teams will be named on Friday 8th May.

Hockey New Zealand rules stipulate that players can compete in only one National Tournament per year. Selection for the U18 National Tournament will therefore exclude participation in the U16 National Tournament in October.Players may be asked to trial in alternative positions at the discretion of the coaching staff, as best suited to both the player’s development and the needs of the team.

Fitness testing: A YoYo or similar fitness test will be conducted to assess the fitness level of the team. This will be primarily for data purposes but may also be used as a selection tool.

Trainings

Men & Women: Mondays at LEP from 6.00pm to 7.30pm. Starting date Monday 11th May. Extra sessions possible on Sunday mornings close to the tournament.

King’s Birthday Weekend – Northern Region U18 Tournament Sunday 31st May & 1st June – Both teams playing against northern region teams (TBC)

Full calendar to be confirmed with players after trials

U18 costs
U18 tournaments are user pays and we anticipate costs to be at a maximum cost of between $2,200 and $2,600 incl GST.
Please note that there will be fundraising and coaching opportunties for players to contribute toward their fees.
We will also apply for funding support and seeking sponsorship, we then pass any funding directly onto the players.
Funding and Sponsorship success can vary but would typically bring the cost down a further $200 – $350 per player.
