Auckland Hockey U16 Representative Programme — 2026

Auckland Hockey’s U16 Representative Programme is one of the most exciting pathways for our developing players. This is your chance to push your game to the next level, compete for a place in our representative teams, and experience high-performance hockey in a challenging and rewarding environment.

Our programme is built around player development — giving athletes the opportunity to grow their skills, build confidence, and perform under pressure alongside the best players in the region.

The campaign includes open and invite trials, a structured team training programme, and culminates in both the Northern Region Tournament and the National U16 Championships.

This opportunity is open to players in Year 9, Year 10, Year 11, and Year 12 (born in 2010).

Trials

All trials are held at LEP.

Boys Trials — Mondays, 6:00pm–7:30pm

Open Trials

• Trial 1 — Monday 27 July
• Trial 2 — Monday 3 August

Invite Trials

• Trial 3 — Monday 10 August
• Trial 4 — Monday 17 August

Girls Trials — Fridays, 6:30pm–8:30pm

Open Trials

• Trial 1 — Friday 24 July
• Trial 2 — Friday 31 July

Age Eligibility & Tournament Structure

Auckland Hockey will select one team per gender to attend the National U16 Championships, as per Hockey New Zealand rules. Players not selected for the National U16 Championships will compete at the Northern Region Tournament.

To be eligible to play in the National Under 16 Tournament, players must be under the age of 16 and 14 years or older as of 1st January of the year in which the tournament is played. For example, a player whose 16th birthday is on or after 1st January is eligible; a player whose 16th birthday falls before 1st January is ineligible.

Only players born in 2010 or 2011 are eligible to play in the U16 Nationals.

Players who participate in the National U18 Tournament in the same calendar year are not eligible for the U16 National Tournament.

Northern Region Tournament 26–28 September 2026 Location: North Harbour

National U16 Championships 3–7 October 2026 (travelling Friday 2nd October)

Costs & Fees

Northern Region Tournament

• Field players: $315 — includes Auckland Hockey shirt & socks
• Goalkeeper: $200 — includes Auckland Hockey shirt & socks

National U16 Championships

• Estimated cost: $1,500–$1,800 per player

Training Programme

Team trainings will commence the week of 7th September, following school tournament week. A full training calendar will be released shortly.
