Auckland Hockey U16 Representative Programme — 2026

Auckland Hockey’s U16 Representative Programme is one of the most exciting pathways for our developing players. This is your chance to push your game to the next level, compete for a place in our representative teams, and experience high-performance hockey in a challenging and rewarding environment.

Our programme is built around player development — giving athletes the opportunity to grow their skills, build confidence, and perform under pressure alongside the best players in the region.

The campaign includes open and invite trials, a structured team training programme, and culminates in either the Northern Region Tournament or the National U16 Championships.

Who can trial

The U16 programme is open to all players in Year 9, Year 10, Year 11, or Year 12 (Only born in 2010). If your child is in one of these school years, they can trial.

Which tournament will my child play?

Every player in the programme finishes the season at one of two tournaments. Which one depends on birth year:

• U16 National Championships — players born in 2010 or 2011. Auckland Hockey selects one team per gender for Nationals, per Hockey New Zealand eligibility rules.
• U16 Northern Region Tournament — all other players in the programme, including Year 9s born in 2012.

Players who participate in the National U18 Tournament in the same calendar year are not eligible for the U16 National Tournament.

Key dates

• Northern Region Tournament: 26–28 September 2026 (North Harbour)
• National U16 Championships: 3–7 October 2026 — Boys in Auckland, Girls in Christchurch (travelling Friday 2 October)
