DRUG FREE SPORT POLICIES

Auckland Hockey tries to protect its reputation and educate its players on the subject of illicit and performance enhancing drugs.

In effect, we do four things:

1. All teams from 15s to NHL receive the Drug Free Sport seminar either online or in person as part of their build-up campaigns and sign their AKH Codes of Conduct re abiding by the protocols.

2. 21s and NHL players are subject to random testing during their build-ups and at tournament

3. At tournaments, there is zero tolerance for any player found to have taken illicit drugs and that immediate expulsion is a consequence of any breach

4. It is made crystal clear to all teams, via managers and coaches, that when a campaign ends and a team returns to Auckland via flights or buses, our duty of care ends on their return. We are not responsible for the actions of individuals after return.

At no point in AHA’s history has a player ever tested positive for banned substances. Were we suspicious that an athlete was taking drugs, the matter would be pursued.
