AFL New Zealand and Auckland Cricket, recently collaborated with Auckland Hockey to provide new sporting opportunities to over 450 Primary and Intermediate School age children in Auckland.
Auckland Hockey recently delivered two programmes (Festival Day and a School Holiday programme) and invited AFL and Cricket along to be involved.
AFL introductory lessons were delivered over 2 weeks where the students were taught the fundamental skills of AFL using modified games.
The Balance is Better philosophy was developed by Sport New Zealand, to inform and provide a framework that puts the needs of the participant first.
AFL New Zealand Schools Manager, Reg Ranchhod sees the benefits of being introduced to different sports.
“It is great to see so many kids from different parts of Auckland, getting the opportunity to not only be active with Hockey during the school holidays, but a chance to try new skills and sports.“
“Having Auckland Hockey, Auckland Cricket, AFLNZ and 10 hockey clubs involved, really does show a Balance is Better approach. A huge thanks to Manoj and Sandie at Auckland Hockey for making this happen and looking forward to seeing how we can grow on this.“
