Auckland Hockey teams delivered a strong showing at the 2025 Ford NHC held in Christchurch from September 14th – 20th, with outstanding performances from all four of our teams across the tournament.
The Auckland Women’s Tier 1 team continued their dominance on the national stage, securing their third consecutive K-Cup NHC title! The side demonstrated class and built consistently throughout the tournament, including a nail biting shoot-out victory over hosts Canterbury in the semi final before dominating the final 5-0 vs Manawatu to complete a remarkable three-peat. Captain Breana Catley finished the tournament as the 3rd equal top goal scorer, with 5 goals.
The Auckland Men’s Tier 1 team also impressed, earni
ng a bronze medal after a competitive campaign that showcased the exciting young talent within Auckland Hockey. The team were within a whisker of qualifying for the final, narrowly missing out 5-4 in a thrilling shoot-out against eventual runners-up North Harbour. The Tier 1 Auckland men faced Wellington in the bronze medal game, winning 1-0 to earned our first NHC men’s medal since 2019. Kervin Guttenbeil and Dylan Muggleston finished as 4th equal Tier 1 men’s top goal scorers each with 4 goals each.
Auckland’s Tier 2 Men’s and Women’s teams also represented the region with pride, gaining valuable experience and continuing to strengthen Auckland’s representative pathway. The Tier 2 teams both finished 7th in just our second year with the Tier 2 teams.
Importantly the Tier 2 results ensure both teams stay in the Tier 2 grade for 2026. These teams are critical to help Auckland Hockey continue to build and provide ongoing development opportunities for players at all stages of the performance pathway.
Congratulations to all players, coaches, management, selectors, volunteers and staff involved in this year’s campaign. Thank you also to all of the families, supporters, and volunteers who helped make Auckland’s presence at the 2025 Ford NHC a success.
A big thank you also to our generous funding partners Trillian Trust and Pub Charity, as well as our sponsors Pump Water and Just Hockey.
Congratulations also to Hockey NZ and Canterbury Hockey who hosted an outstanding 2025 Ford NHC tournament.
