Auckland Hockey is pleased to announce that Auckland Council have approved funding of $4.5 million toward the new Colin Maiden Park two turf development project in St John’s.

The funding has been approved via Auckland Council’s Sport and Recreation Facility Investment Fund. The Sport and Recreation Facilities Investment Fund is a ten-year, $150 million fund established through Auckland Council’s 2021-2031 Long Term Plan.

Auckland Hockey Chair Ryan Archibald and CEO Manoj Daji said “we are extremely grateful for this cornerstone funding and ongoing support from Council, the decision is a significant milestone for the project. We now look forward to signing the agreement with Council and working alongside a range of other funders to fully fund this important project”.

Colin Maiden Park was first identified in 2012 as the Central Auckland site for two new Hockey turfs to address the existing shortage of hockey facilities and serve our sport and community for generations to come. Auckland University Hockey Club will be a club partner for the facility, with many local schools, other Auckland clubs and stakeholders also benefitting from the development.

The next steps will see Auckland Hockey working through the detailed design for the facility with the successfully tendered turf contractor over the coming months, with other key funding decisions and timelines for the various stages of the project to be confirmed over the next 3 – 6 months.
