Auckland Hockey is working through the relevant phases of our junior, youth and senior competition reviews and planning for the 2026 season.
We encourage stakeholders to have their voices heard by completing the relevant competition review surveys and engaging with their club delegates. Your input is vital in shaping competitions that are fair, competitive, and sustainable for all participants.

2026 Senior Divisional Competition Update
As previously communicated, we remain committed to 8 team senior divisional grades and have been working closely with clubs to finalise preferred competition structures, rules and formats. Recently, Auckland Hockey hosted forums with our Senior Competition Review Advisory Group and another forum with club Presidents/delegates to discuss options, gather feedback and refine our recommendations for the divisional grades.
The next step in this process will see Auckland Hockey staff present recommendations and options to the Auckland Hockey Board at their next meeting on 6 November. The Board will consider these recommendations, alongside alternative options, before confirming the format, rules, and grade structures for 2026. We will then be able to communicate the outcomes to stakeholders shortly after.
Please note there is no Senior Divisional review survey as we have already committed to the change to 8 team formats and have been working with clubs throughout the year to finalise our recommended format options to present to the AHA Board for decision.
Junior and Youth Review
Junior and Youth forums are to take place in the coming weeks after Labour Weekend. Auckland Hockey has now circulated competition review surveys to gather feedback from stakeholders. We are particularly interested in understanding how changes to youth grades, days of play, and age eligibility worked this year, and ensuring that junior competitions remain fit for purpose.

Premier and Reserve Competition Review
Intercity and Auckland local competitions are also being reviewed, and feedback from stakeholders is currently being collected.
Auckland Hockey staff and board Competitions Committee will meet with club presidents and delegates toward the end of the month for an Auckland Premier and Reserve Review Forum. The forum will assess stakeholder feedback and provide the opportunity to determine whether the current competition formats, structures and rules are also fit for purpose and meet the needs of our clubs, Association and our representative pathways.
Following the forum, recommendations will be made to the Auckland Hockey Board regarding any changes for 2026. Auckland Hockey will also continue discussions with our Counties and North Harbour counterparts to ensure alignment, discuss and implement any relevant changes.
