Barbara Smith awarded Life Membership of Auckland Hockey

Barbara was part of the group who established the Ladies Division of the Somerville Club and was also in the very first Somerville Women’s team (joining from Teachers Club) and was part of the 1981 Women’s Reserve Championship team.

Barbara has involved herself in Women’s Club coaching and Somerville administration. She was a very good grade player and was Ladies Club Captain from 1980 to 1983. Barbara has coached and managed teams at all levels in the Club. She still coaches and selects teams for the club every year.

She has contributed significantly to the strong development of the Women’s section of the Club and has served on the Committee for many years, including as Club Captain from 1980-1983 and President from 2005-2009. She was elected a Life Member in 2001.

Barbara has coached Auckland Teams at Collier, U15 and U18 levels as well as being the Regional Development Officer early in her coaching career.
