Auckland Hockey farewells our popular Community Competitions Manager Denise Smith who is stepping down from her role in July to spend more time with her young family.

CEO Manoj Daji said ” Denise will be a big loss to our community and staff team and leaves a legacy of well run and organised competitions at all levels. Her relationship management skills have been second to none and she has gone above and beyond for us on many occasions no more so evident than during Covid in 2020.

We support Denise’s personal decision and wish her well for her next chapter. On behalf of our team and Club Captains, Secretaries and Presidents we thank her for her service to Hockey in Auckland. On a personal note thank you Denise for being a loyal friend and keeping us all smiling.”

Denise says “resigning was a really difficult decision to make as I have really enjoyed my time with Auckland Hockey and getting to know so many people within the hockey community. I have realised that I need to be spending more time with my family helping them achieve their goals. Hockey has continued to be a strong passion of mine and I have enjoyed the challenges of putting the competition draws together. I still look forward to being involved in hockey as a player, a masters representative, a parent of a youth player and JUMP umpire”.

GM James Sutherland said “Denise will be a sorely missed member of the team and hockey expert. Her dedication to the role, attention to detail and ensuring our competitions, administration functions and many other unseen tasks around Auckland Hockey have been greatly appreciated. Denise leaves big shoes to fill and I have truly valued her expertise and friendship over the past 3 or so years since joining Auckland Hockey. Denise has been a go to on a number of issues and her problem solving ability has helped improve the hockey experience for our wonderful community from Juniors aged 5 right through to Masters aged 65+! We look forward to seeing Denise around with weekend club hockey, masters representative teams and supporting her young family in their hockey participation. Thank you for everything you have done for AKH Denise.”
