Recent passing of Olympic Gold Medalist and Former NZ Captain Arthur Parkin

Auckland Hockey acknowledges the recent passing of former Auckland Men’s player and centurion Arthur Parkin.

Arthur, a Northlander, moved to Auckland after gaining his Bachelor of PE from Otago University. In total he played in 146 games for Auckland while a teacher at Mt Roskill Grammar, and Auckland Grammar.

As well as being part of the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame with the 1976 Montreal Gold medalists, Arthur was New Zealand Olympic Captain in 1984 at Los Angeles while an Auckland player, our 4th NZ Captain in our 120 year history.

He later teamed up in 1992 with Life Member Kevin Towns (Head Coach) as trainer/assistant coach with the New Zealand Men’s team at the Barcelona Olympic Games.

Arthur excelled at Hockey and Golf and played Senior Cricket in Auckland. A true blue Auckland University Hockey Club and University Passmaster’s player.

Auckland Hockey extends our condolences to Marceline (former Auckland Hockey Board Member) and his family and friends, who our thoughts are with at this time.
